Fixing the Future on PBS

A fascinating special about new economic experiments happening across the country will air on PBS Nov 18th and 19th. I worked with award winning documentarian Ellen Spiro associated producing, b-camering and sound recording in Austin, Berkeley and Bellinham.

This is the short film I directed and Mike Simpson shot last May.

Heather Kafka plays Lauren, a woman who believes finding former musician, Paul Logan, will somehow bring her back to life.

Dallas Videofest

Uprush will play as part of the shorts program TEXAS SHOW on Sun Nov 8th at 8pm. The festival is taking place at the Angelika Film Center in Mockingbird Station, Dallas TX from November 5th to the 8th.

Kim wins Texas Filmmakers Production Grant

Kim recently won a film production grant from the Austin Film Society toward the production of her next short film The Third Jetty. Stay tuned for details.

This Tuesday the 13th, 2009, from 6:15-8:30 pm as part of Vickie Kereszi’s Women Behind the Lens series at Anthology Film Archives in New York City.

PORTUGAL

Uprush played at the U.Frame film festival in beautiful Porto, Portugal on October 3rd. The festival features student films from across the globe, some of the best I’ve seen in any short film program.

UPRUSH wins Kodak Scholarship

Kodak announced the recipients of their annual Eastman Scholarship today and UPRUSH was a winner of one of the product grants. Thank you to the faculty in the RTF department at UT for nominating the film!

Location Scouting for FATAKRA

I’m currently production designing for my good friend, Soham Mehta, on his film FATAKRA. We’ve been location scouting mostly in the outlying areas southeast of Austin which I’ve discovered are beautfiul this time of year. Scouting in 103 degree weather does have some benefits, apparently.

The factory is this amazing peanut processing plant in Giddings, Texas where we’ll be doing the bulk of our shooting. Giddings is small Texas town surrounded by farmland that benefited from an oil boom in the 1980s but is now pretty sleepy. It also has the widest streets I’ve seen in Texas. If you pass through, stop by Mel’s Diner (not from the 70s sitcom Alice) and have a slice of their coconut pie… amazing!
